Joanne Jorgensen is an award-winning Materials design creative director who has worked for over two decades in the field of Materials innovation and design for fashion and footwear. From 2015 until June 2024 Joanne led Nikes Footwear Materials Design Studio with a focus on Flyknit technology for performance footwear. Flyknit is Nike’s most sustainable, zero waste upper platform for footwear. Joanne’s early career in fashion started in New York where she elevated her professional craft at VF Corporation (Nautica) and PVH Corporation before moving to London where she designed for well-loved British brands such as Marks and Spencer, Very and Arcadia.
After seeing first-hand the impact of fast fashion, she co-founded a sustainable start up with a core ethos in timeless knitwear. Joanne is a passionate design leader with a focus on zero waste and circular make, harnessing an interdisciplinary approach to lead the future of material design and innovation. As an industry leader and coach Joanne believes to accomplish a system that works in symbiosis with our earths ecosystem there is a need for diverse thinking and approaches in design. In her spare time, she mentors and coaches’ young people to help them realise the design roles and the impact you can have to the future of the planet.
